INDIA VS TB: TB FREE INDIA SUMMIT
India accounts for more than 1/4th of the global burden of tuberculosis incidence and 34% of global TB deaths (Global TB Report 2016).
India, with 1.23 billion people, is also the second largest population in the world. With explosive urbanization, the slum population is also growing rapidly. It is estimated that nearly one-third of India’s urban population or nearly 100 million live in slums characterized by overcrowding, poor hygiene and sanitation, and the absence of civic services.

Keeping this situation in mind, a TB Free
India Summit in Dharamshala on April 7
& 8, 2017 was organized.
DISCUSSIONS
As part of the summit, various stimulating panel discussions and interactions between Union & State Ministers, Members of Parliaments, Government officials, celebrities, public health experts, etc. were held to galvanize support and commitment from these key stakeholders.
TOURNAMENT
To ensure that the message of TB Free India reached people across the length and breadth of the country, a friendly India vs TB Cricket Tournament was hosted on April 8, 2017 at HPCA Stadium, Dharamshala. The match was played between MP’s XI (Member of Parliaments) and Mumbai Heroes (Celebrity team).
LIVE TELECAST
Over 10,000 people gathered live at the stadium and the match was telecast live on Doordarshan National, Rajya Sabha TV and deferred live by DD Sports, twice.
Doordarshan National and DD Sports, enjoyed a combined viewership of over 200 million. Rajya Sabha TV also boasted of a robust viewer base.
TB VS INDIA SUMMIT
Taking our commitment to make India TB Free by 2025 forward, The Union, in collaboration with Vidya Foundation embarked upon this journey and organized TB Free India Summit 2019.
In an attempt to support the initiative of Government of India and Honorable Prime Minister’s vision of making India TB Free by 2025, a TB Summit and Cricket Tournament was organized.
Day Two started with a welcome note by Sh. Anurag Thakur, followed by an inaugural keynote address by Sh. Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Union Minister of State Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (IC), Government of India.
To make sure that people being reached become an active agent in eradicating TB from India, Sh. Anurag Thakur, Member of Parliament Hamirpur took a pledge before the commencement of the match.
The ‘TB Free India’ Summit 2019 brought together Chief Ministers, Health Ministers, Member of Parliaments, Member of Legislative Assembly, International Health Experts, Senior Government Officials, Corporate Heads and partner NGO’s to reaffirm India’s commitment in eradicating TB by 2025.
